Marriage Enrichment

If you ever get a chance to see Gary Chapman conduct a marriage conference - I would highly recommend it. We got the chance to see him this weekend at our church and it was well worth our time and money. He has written a lot of great books, one of them being The Five Love Languages, which I would also recommend if you haven't read it. You really learn a lot about yourself and your spouse.

He gave practical and easy ways to implement changes that really can improve our marriage. Now the test - to see if we actually implement them - I have renewed hope and look forward to see the positive changes in our marriage. For example - an easy way to increase communication - ask your spouse to tell you 3 things that happened in their day and how they felt about it. He said that if you did that alone that you would be communicating more than 50% of the marriages today - a pretty sad statistic.

Anyways, another thing I was reminded of was to keep the focus on what I can do in my marriage to produce positive change. So, in that spirit, I got up and exercised this morning. Sad to admit, but besides carrying the boys and chasing them around, I have not had any cardio exercise in quite a while. This time, I started out slow. I popped in the Walk a way the Pounds - 1 Mile video, instead of skipping to the 3 mile video, which is where I left off the last time I stopped exercising. I think that maybe using this blog will be a way to increase my self-discipline in that area...plus having friends like Erica, who are a true inspiration.
